OPG consults on the hardware aspects of optical fabrication, testing, assembly and alignment. OPG does not make optics but we are familiar with many shops that do, particularly prototypes, aspherics and large optics. OPG can help find a good and cost effective source for your optics.
OPG has had experience testing and writing procedures for testing optics for almost 40 years. We are especially adept at modeling test set ups, tolerancing them and writing error budgets. Off-axis aspherics are a particular specialty. Once the test set up is designed, OPG can help locate suitable hardware for the test and align it so the test is ready for use. Once components are known to meet spec, OPG can write assembly and alignment procedures as well as overseeing initial assembly and alignment. On prototype optics, OPG can handle the whole procedure while for production instruments OPG will help with the documentation and training for in-house assembly and alignment.
OPG is often used to help in the initial alignment of an optical system. Once the procedure is understood the client can take over. Often it is one small aspect of the whole procedure that has not been thought through. Once over this hurdle the client can proceed on their own.
It is OPG's goal to get in and out as quickly as possible; to transfer the test and alignment technology to the client rapidly so they become self-sufficient. To do this it helps to involve OPG at the design phase of a project so provisions for alignment are built into the hardware from the beginning, before there is a crisis.
